MILWAUKEE, WISC. -- The LIU Brooklyn bowling team went 1-4 on the opening day of the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater Warhawk Classic in Milwaukee on Friday. Two of the Blackbirds opponents, No. 2 McKendree and No. 4 Sam Houston State, on day one are ranked in the top five in the NTCA rankings. The event at AMF West Lanes, which features the top six teams in the nation to lead a tough field, continues on Saturday, before finishing up on Sunday, Nov. 11.
LIU's first match in Friday's baker matches was No. 4 Sam Houston State, who notched two 240+ pin games to top the Blackbirds, 833-1044. In both matches two and three on the day, LIU put down 200+ pins, but were unable to secure the team victory. The Blackbirds fell to host No. 21 Wisconsin-Whitewater and No. 14 Lincoln Memorial, by scores of 879-909 and 918-947, respectively.
The Blackbirds were victorious in match number four against Youngstown State by scores of 202-187, 220-169, 158-232, 177-181 and 214-182. Next, No. 2 McKendree topped the Blackbirds 1166-985, in the last match, as LIU finished day one in 12th place with a 185.4 pin average.
Saturday's competition starts at 9:25 a.m. with the Blackbirds playing a position round match against No. 9 Fairleigh Dickinson, before facing No. 3 Nebraska, No. 22 Maryville, No. 6 Stephen F. Austin and Lincoln (Mo.), in that order.
