FRIDAY PRELIM HEAT SHEETS
BROOKLYN, N.Y. - The LIU Brooklyn women's swimming team picked up 61 points on Thursday, led by a silver medal performance from junior Briana Vega on the first full day of the 2018 Northeast Conference Women's Swimming and Diving Championship meet at the Nassau County Aquatic Center. The Blackbirds have 117 team points and sit in fifth place in the standings with two more days of action remaining in East Meadow, Long Island.
Vega led the Blackbirds on day two, setting a new school record in the 50 freestyle final, coming in second with a time of 23.23 seconds, earning the team's first podium finish of the championship. She finished a mere three-hundreths of a second behind the top spot. Also in the event, freshman Alyssa Juris posted her season best mark of 25.02 to finish in 18th place.
Freshman Amanda Peren set a personal best in the 200 individual medley, coming in fifth place with a time of 2:04.35. Classmate Jeanne Touchette-McGowan had a 20th place showing with a time of 2:10.42. In the first event of the night, sophomore Noemie Lacroix-Moreau slotted in 19th place in the 500 freestyle with a season-best time of 5:12.17.
LIU capped off the night with a fourth place showing in the 200 freestyle relay, as the foursome of Vega, Touchette-McGowan, Juris and Peren hit the wall in 1:35.90, a season-best by 1.5 seconds.
The four day meet continues Friday morning at 10:00 a.m. with preliminaries in six events. The finals for the 400 individual medley, 100 butterfly, 200 freestyle, 100 breaststroke, 100 backstroke and 400 medley relay will be held during the night session, beginning at 6:00 p.m. All four days of the 2018 Northeast Conference Swimming & Diving Championships will air live on NECFrontRow.
