The No. 4 seeded LIU Brooklyn men's basketball team upset No. 1 seed Wagner, 71-61 in the 2018 Northeast Conference Championship game, punching their ticket to the Big Dance in the process. The Blackbirds earned its first NEC Championship title since 2013, and sixth overall.

In 2013, the Blackbirds earned a No.16 seed, and traveled to Dayton, Ohio to face off against fellow No. 16 seed James Madison as one of the First Four games in the 2013 NCAA Tournament First Round. In that game, LIU rallied from a 12-point, first-half deficit to take a one-point lead five minutes into the second half against James Madison, but couldn't overcome poor shooting and fell to the Dukes, 68-55.
