BROOKLYN, N.Y. - The LIU Brooklyn men's and women's track & field teams competed simultaneously this weekend at two different meets, as the outdoor season kicks into high gear for the Blackbirds. Some team members went to the Metropolitan Championships, hosted by Rutgers in Piscataway, N.J. A larger contingent went down to Greensboro, North Carolina for the Aggie Invitational, hosted by N.C. A&T.
TOP PERFORMER
- Eugenie Hue won the women's 800 meters and lowered her personal best from 2:10.93 down to 2:09.39, which won the race by 0.31 seconds. The time ranks number two on the all-time list at Liu-Brooklyn. Ranks first in NEC. Is an ECAC qualifier, ranks 26th in ECAC, and also Ranks 56th place in the East Region Hue also finished 10th place out of 49 competitors in the women's 400 meters. Her time of 56.09, just off her NEC list leading time of 55.60.
WOMEN'S RESULTS AT AGGIE INVITATIONAL
- Shantae McDonald also competed in the women's' 400 and finished in 11th establishing a new personal best of 56.17 and ECAC quailed. McDonald also slotted 15th in the 200 meter dash in 24.44. Freshmen Toni Glatz was 22nd in the 200 dash (24.69) and 18th in the 400m (57.51).
- Sophomore Taylor Parker took second place in the shot put (14.42 meters), which is just off of her NEC list leading throw of 14.63. She was also 17th in the discus (28.06 meters).
- Junior Ashley Blackwell finished in third place in the women's 100 meters, and established a new personal best of 11.91. The time ranks second in the NEC, and is an ECAC qualifier.
- Freshman Courtney McNeil, was also a finalist in the 100 meter dash, slotting sixth in a time of 12.21, which was 0.08 faster than her qualifying time.
- Freshman Tara Hernandez, junior Zaahira Deboise and junior Cayla Coleman were 13th, 14th and 16th in the 800 meters, with their two laps in 2:22.34, 2:23.16 and 2:26.39, respectively.
WOMEN'S RESULTS AT METROPOLITAN CHAMPIONSHIPS
- Sophomore Angeli Andre finished second in the high jump at 1.60 meters on her second leap, after passing at the first three lower heights. Andre also had a seventh place finish on the track in the 200 meter dash in 25.91.
- Senior DeAngelique Waithe, competing in her first meet this season, was successful on her first attempt in the high jump at 1.45, 1.50 and 1.55 to take fifth place overall.
- Freshman Myriah Williams was 16th in the 400 meter dash in 1:01.89. She also was 26th in the 200 meters in 27.59.
- Junior Deja Johnson ran a 12.87 in the 100 meter dash, coming in 17th and the 200 meter dash in 26.73 (18th place).
- Sophomore Tichina Davis had a toss of 33.14 meters to place 18th in the Hammer Throw.
MEN'S RESULTS AT AGGIE INVITATIONAL
- Clinton Belle finished fourth in the discus (43.75 meters) establishing a new personal best and a school record, as he went from 40.39, to 43.75 meters. Belle was also sixth in the shot put at 14.62 meters. The distances in both events rank him third in the Northeast Conference.
- The men's 4x100 meter relay finished fifth (41.46). The team consisting of sophomore Kwesi Henderson, sophomore Collin Sewell, junior Caleb Williams and junior Braylon Wilkerson, ranks second in the NEC and is an IC4A qualifier.
- Sewell finished eighth in the men's 200 meters out of 61 competitors in 21.16. Sewell established a new personal best of 21.16, with his time leading the NEC. It is also a IC4A qualifier, and ranks 11th in IC4A and 60th in the East Region.
- Wilkerson also contested the 200 meters and finished 14th establishing a new personal best of 21.51. Wilkerson's time ranks second in the NEC, and is also an IC4A qualifier.
- Williams established a new season best of 10.71. The time ranked ninth out of 45 athletes, and Williams just missed making the finals by .01 seconds. The time also ranks 3rd in the NEC and is a IC4A qualifier. Wilkerson and Henderson also ran the 100 dash in 10.90 (17th place) and 11.01 (24th), respectively.
- Sophomore Arrin Davis was LIU's top finisher in the men's 800 meters (1:59.87), coming in 17th place.
MEN'S RESULTS AT METROPOLITAN CHAMPIONSHIPS
- Sophomore Sean Sinclair's silver medal performance (22.04) led a contingent of top finishers in the 200 meter dash, with sophomore Corey Butcher (22.73) sixth, junior Roderick Moodie (22.79) seventh, junior Kobe White (22.93) eighth and freshman Alban Lefeuvre (23.05) eleventh overall.
- In the 400 meter dash, Lefeuvre was 13th in 50.81, followed by senior Tobias Nelson in 21st (51.73) and Butcher in 26th (53.00).
- Sophomore Ceiquan Brown (11.41) came in 18th in the 100 meter dash, with junior Ernest Agyeman (11.83) following in 25th place.
Both teams will be back on the track in North Carolina next weekend for the Duke Invitational Meet from April 20-21.
