PORT WASHINGTON, N.Y. -- The LIU Brooklyn women's golf team played a pair of shootout events at the Harbor Links Golf Course in Port Washington, Long Island in preparation for next week's Northeast Conference Championships. On the first day, the Blackbirds (307) finished just a stroke behind St. John's (306), with Wagner in third place at 311. On the second day, playing head to head against the Seahawks, LIU edged out their rivals by one stroke for the win, 313-314.
In the first shootout, LIU sophomore Carolina Ronchel had the low score of the day, with a 1-under performance (70) on the par 71 course. She was the only player of 17 finishers at or below par. Wagner's Pascalle Tego was second with a 73. On day two, Ronchel was second on the squad with a 5-over 77 round.
Senior Lauren Rutherglen, who shot an 85 on the first day, rebounded with a solid 74 (+3) in the second shootout to lead the Blackbirds. Meanwhile, sophomore Rebeca Pardos did the opposite, opening with an 77 (+6) and closing with a round of 84. Junior Sara Ciliberto played consistently over her two rounds with a 78 on day one and a 79 on day two. Sophomore Aida Gonzalez finished in fourth place for the Blackbirds on both days with identical rounds of 83 (+12).
