BROOKLYN, N.Y. - LIU Brooklyn men's track & field senior Kareem Roberts was named the Northeast Conference Men's Field Athlete of the Week. It is the first NEC honor this season for the defending champion in the event. Roberts previously won NEC Athlete of the Week twice last year in his first season with the Blackbirds.
In the high jump at the Florida Relays, Roberts competed in his signature event outdoors for the first time since last May. The reigning NEC champion cleared 2.11m (6' 11"), tying for the highest mark at the meet and taking the conference lead in the process. Due to one fewer miss, Mississippi State's Reggie Miller edged out Roberts for first place. Roberts, who hails from nearby Bay Shore, Long Island, cleared the bar on his second attempt at the height and had to settled for a silver medal. The veteran Blackbird is currently one of six IC4A Championships qualifiers to have jumped at least 2.11 meters this season.
The LIU men's and women's track & field teams have the upcoming weekend off from competition and will resume action April 12-14 at both the Aggie Invitational, hosted by North Carolina A&T in Greensboro, N.C. and the METRO Championships, hosted by Rutgers in Piscataway, N.J.
