BROOKLYN, N.Y. - LIU Brooklyn men's track & field senior Kareem Roberts was named the Northeast Conference Men's Field Athlete of the Week for the second time this spring. It is the fourth NEC award in the past two seasons for the defending conference champion in the high jump. This marks the final award week of the season before the NECs. Roberts, the LIU record holder, will be aiming for the NEC record this weekend in his signature event at the championships.
Roberts appears ready to defend his NEC outdoor high jump title. The Bay Shore, Long Island resident cleared 2.16m (7'1") while competing at the Penn Relays. The height, which leads the Northeast Conference by 12 centimeters, ranks Roberts fourth overall amongst IC4A Championship qualifiers. Roberts is only one of 20 men to have leapt at least 2.16m this season. With a great leap, he may threaten the NEC Championship meet record (2.18m) this upcoming weekend at Mount St. Mary's.
The LIU men's outdoor track & field team will be aiming for the school's first-ever NEC Championship this weekend, Saturday-Sunday, May 5-6 in Emmitsburg, Maryland. LIU was the men's indoor championship runner-up this year, while the Blackbird women's indoor team won the team title.
