BROOKLYN, N.Y. - The LIU Brooklyn softball team will wrap up its regular season Saturday afternoon on Staten Island, as the Blackbirds head back to Wagner's campus to wrap up a series that was suspended partway through game two.
The two teams originally faced off at the end of March, with LIU winning game one, 7-6 in eight innings. In the second game of the day, Wagner jumped out to an early 6-2 lead before the game was suspended due to unplayable field conditions. The game was suspended after 3.5 innings.
The Blackbirds (20-26, 8-7 NEC) need a win to assure a spot in the postseason tournament.
In the first part of the game in March, Wagner led off with a home run, but the Blackbirds came back to tie it up right away.
Senior
Victoria Zamora led off with a single, and freshman
Ryleigh Bermea would hit an RBI double to tie it up, 1-1. Senior
Angie Vazquez came to the plate and singled, advancing Bermea to third, and junior
Schae Dickson had a sacrifice fly to right field that would bring her home and put LIU on top, 2-1.
Wagner would answer by scoring five runs in the bottom of the frame to take the 6-2 lead, shortly before the game was suspended. The game will pick up where the two teams led off, beginning at 1 p.m. Saturday.
