2018 LIU Brooklyn Field Hockey Schedule
BROOKLYN, N.Y. – LIU Brooklyn field hockey head coach Kyle DeSandes-Moyer has announced her squad's schedule for the fall of 2018. The Blackbirds, in their third year as a program, will open the season Friday, April 24 in Hamilton, N.Y.
Similar to last year's schedule, the first eight games of the year will be on the road for LIU, opening up with two games at Colgate. The Blackbirds open the year taking on Saint Louis in Hamilton, N.Y. on August 24, before taking on the host Colgate, Sunday, August 26.
From there, the Blackbirds will swing through the south and head north to New England before returning home to downtown Brooklyn. LIU will play road contests at Appalachian State (Aug. 31), Davidson (Sept. 2), Georgetown (Sept. 7), Towson (Sept. 9), Holy Cross (Sept. 14) and Providence (Sept. 16). A non-conference road matchup at Hofstra on Oct. 14 rounds out non-league travel for LIU.
The home opener on LIU Field will take place Friday, September 21, as the Blackbirds host Lock Haven University, a part of a three game home streak. LIU will also host Lehigh (Sept. 23) and La Salle (Sept. 30), before beginning Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) action.
The Blackbirds open conference play on the road against Monmouth on October 5, before returning home on Sunday, October 7 to host Rider on LIU Field. A Friday road game at Sacred Heart (Oct. 19) wraps up MAAC travel. LIU will wrap up the regular season hosting two top MAAC teams in downtown Brooklyn, welcoming Bryant on October 21, and defending MAAC champions Fairfield, Friday, October 26.
The MAAC Championships, hosted at the highest seed, will take place Friday, November 2 and Sunday, November 4.
