2018 LIU Brooklyn Volleyball Schedule
BROOKLYN, N.Y. – The two-time defending Northeast Conference champion LIU Brooklyn volleyball team, led by head coach Ken Ko in his fourth season, announced their 2018 competition schedule Monday afternoon. The Blackbirds begin their title defense in late August, taking part in four tournaments before opening up NEC play.
LIU will open the season taking part in the UNLV Invitational in Las Vegas August 24 and 25, taking on Southern Utah, Indiana University, and the host Rebels in three games over two days. The Blackbirds will continue their swing of the West Coast, heading to Portland, Oregon next, to take part in the Nike Portland Invitational, August 31 to September 1. There, LIU will take on the University of Wyoming, Montana State, and host University of Portland.
The Blackbirds then return home to roost in Brooklyn, bringing back the annual Blackbird Invitational Tournament, September 7 and 8 in the Steinberg Wellness Center. LIU Brooklyn will play host to squads from Holy Cross, George Washington and the University of South Florida. The three teams will play six matches over the two days, culminating with LIU taking on USF at 6:30 p.m. Saturday night. LIU will then play two matches against ACC foe Miami September 14 and 15, before returning to the Northeast to begin conference action.
The Blackbirds open the NEC slate on the road the first weekend, taking on Fairleigh Dickinson (Sept. 21) and Sacred Heart (Sept. 22). LIU will open at home in NEC action on September 28 and 29, welcoming Bryant and CCSU to the Steinberg Wellness Center. Other home games include matches against St. Francis Brooklyn (Oct. 12), FDU (Oct. 19), Sacred Heart (Oct. 20), Saint Francis U. (Oct. 26), and Robert Morris (Oct. 27). Road matches will take place at SFU and RMU (Oct. 5-6), and the final three games of the season, at St. Francis Brooklyn (Nov. 2), at Bryant (Nov. 9) and at CCSU (Nov. 10).
The Northeast Conference championship tournament will take place November 16 & 17th at the highest seed, with the first and second rounds of the NCAA tournament slated for November 29 to December 1.
