BROOKLYN, N.Y. -- The LIU Brooklyn women's soccer team will host Saint Peter's under the lights on Thursday night in a non-conference showdown on LIU Field at 6 p.m.
BLACKBIRDS DRAW WITH NJIT
LIU (0-1-1) earned a scoreless draw on the road against NJIT in Hillside, N.J. last Sunday, behind a stellar effort from sophomore goalkeeper Megan Virgin, who notched her first career shutout, playing all 110 minutes and collecting seven saves. After two games so far this season, the LIU defense has yielded only one goal for the first time since the 2013 campaign.
PREVIEWING THE PEACOCKS
Saint Peter's (0-0) opens their season with 13 letterwinners from last year's 3-13-1 squad. Among their returnees are top point scorers Barbara Paiva (six goals), Elizabeth Pacillo, and Brooke Trotta. Also in the pipes for the Peacocks is the 2017 MAAC saves leader, sophomore Victoria Scarratt.
LIU LEADS ALL-TIME SERIES WITH SPU
The Blackbirds have won seven straight and are 7-1 all-time against the Peacocks, but the teams have not played the last two seasons. The last meeting in 2015, was a 5-2 win at LIU field featured a goal and an assist from current senior (then freshman) Marian Awad. Her classmates, Maddie Shockley, Summer Sofer and Leslie Wrightington also played in the victory, along with current assistant coach Lucy Gunton-Jones.
HEADING TO TENNESSEE
Following the game, LIU will have a week-long break as they embark on the longest road trip of the season for a two-game stint in the Volunteer state. First, the Blackbirds will take on Middle Tennessee on Friday, August 31 in Murfreesboro, before heading to Music City on Sunday, September 2 in Nashville.
