MEET RESULTS
JERSEY CITY, N.J. -- The LIU Brooklyn women's swimming team returned to competition on Saturday after the holiday break and moved to ten wins in dual meets for the first time in program history. The Blackbirds earned a pair of non-conference wins in a double-dual meet in Jersey City, N.J. on Saturday, beating Saint Peter's, 212-44, and Monmouth, 167-95, on Saturday at the Peacocks' Yanitelli Center.
The Blackbirds (10-2) won 11 of the 15 events on the slate, as the three teams used a short format schedule, except for the final 800 freestyle relay. LIU had a balanced lineup, as eight swimmers won individual events, which included three swimmers winning two events apiece: senior, Mads Carrigan, sophomore Amanda Peren and freshman Lydia Amon.
Carrigan, who is having a strong senior campaign, won the 50 breaststroke (31.81) and the 100 individual medley (1:02.49). Peren enjoyed success in the 500 freestyle (5.20.10) and the 100 breaststroke (1:09.23), two very non-traditional events for the super sophomore. Amon was on point in her two signature events, the 50 freestyle (25.08) and 100 freestyle (55.29).
Junior Co-Captain Noemie Lacroix-Moreau also had an eventful day, breaking the school record in the 50 butterfly in 26.47. She finished in second place in her race, but topped the previous program record (set in January 2016) by 0.08. Lacroix Moreau did come away with one gold medal, winning the 100 butterfly in 57.85.
Senior Nathalie Meyers won the 50 backstroke against the Hawks and the Peacocks, with a strong time of 28.25. Sophomore Jeanne Touchette-McGowan also had a win on the day, the 200 freestyle, in 1:59.28, to just beat teammate Amanda San Juan in the race. San Juan, a distance specialist, won the 200 individual medley in 2:15.74 to round out the solo wins on the day.
In the final event, the 800 freestyle relay, a team of Peren, Lacroix-Moreux, San Juan and Touchette-McGowan cruised to a victory in 8:04.55, over 25 seconds ahead of second place.
Sophomore Jodi Hawki anchored a second place 200 medley relay (1:52.00) with Meyers, Carrigan and Amon… Sophomore Kyleigh Barao took second in the 200 individual medley (2:17.41)... Freshman Mackenzie Burnett slotted second in both the 50 breaststroke (32.45) and 100 breaststroke (1:10.03)... Freshman Macie Madden had a third place finish in the 500 freestyle (5:31.09).
Next up, the Blackbirds will wrap up their home schedule, Saturday, January 26, with a 12:00 noon start against Northeast Conference foe Wagner. The meet will also serve as a salute to the program's first trio of four-year seniors: Mads Carrigan, Nathalie Meyers and Briana Vega.
