BROOKLYN, N.Y. - LIU Brooklyn Women's Swimming freshman Lydia Amon was named the Northeast Conference Co-Rookie of the Week, it was announced by the league office Tuesday afternoon. It is the first weekly NEC award of her career.
LIU Brooklyn has enjoyed an impressive campaign from its freshman class, with Amon joining Amanda San Juan as the second Blackbird swimmer to earn NEC Rookie of the Week honors this season. The Missoula, Montana native was busy in a double dual meet with Monmouth and Saint Peter's, racking up a pair of individual wins and a couple of second place finishes. She posted her best time of the day in the 50 free (25.08) with the fourth-fastest showing in the Conference for the month of January. Amon also swam victoriously in the 100 free (55.29), while taking second in the 50 back (28.49) and as part of the 200 medley relay (1:52.00).
The Blackbirds (10-2) will wrap up their home schedule on Saturday with a 12:00 p.m. battle against Northeast Conference foe Wagner. The meet will also serve as a salute to the program's first trio of four-year seniors: Mads Carrigan, Nathalie Meyers and Briana Vega, just prior to the start.
