MANHATTAN, N.Y.— The LIU Brooklyn men's track and field team wrapped up competition at the annual Dr. Sander Columbia Challenge on Saturday. The Blackbirds had success in their first two-day meet of the year, headlined by senior Roderick Moodie setting a school record in the 60-meter hurdles.
Moodie earned a second place finish on Friday afternoon in a competitive field with a standout IC4A qualifying mark of 7.91 seconds. He shattered the previous LIU mark of 8.02 seconds set by Brendon Rodney back in 2016.
The Blackbirds relay group of juniors Kimorie Shearman and Kasique Oliver along with seniors Braylon Wilkerson and Caleb Williams ran a IC4A qualifying time of 3:15.32 in the men's 4x400 relay event to place fourth overall.
Wilkerson also led LIU in the 400 meter event, finishing eighth overall with a IC4A mark of 48.46. Shearman finished right behind him in 10th with a personal-best and IC4A qualifying time of 48.57. Oliver ran a standout time of 1:51.97 in the 800 meter to place fifth in the event and also hit an IC4A qualifying mark. His time also currently leads the NEC circuit in the 800-meter
In the field events, senior Clinton Belle finished 13th in the shot put event with a throw of 15.11 meters. Freshman Krishna White led LIU in the triple jump with a mark of 14.76 meters to place 11th. Junior Jared Lovelace placed 12th with a mark of 14.61 meters. Both jumpers carded IC4A qualifying jumps for the second straight week.
LIU is back in action next Friday, February 1 at the Metropolitan Championships held at Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex in Staten Island.
