BROOKLYN, NY -- LIU head softball coach Roy Kortmann has announced the first two student-athletes to National Letters of Intent to play for the team beginning in the fall of 2019. Two Californians, Maya Avila (Santa Clarita, CA.) and Alexis Toledo (Chino, CA.) will both join the LIU family for the 2019-20 academic year.

A first team All-Foothill League selection after starting for Saugus HS since her freshman season… Team won Foothill league championship last season… A scholar-athlete and National Honor Society member, she can play multiple positions … played summer ball for the Orange County Batbusters and the So Cal Firecrackers.
Kortmann on Avila: "We are excited to welcome Maya to the LIU softball family. Maya is a solid contact hitter with terrific versatility to play both infield and outfield positions. She will be an integral part of a young and talented group of players."
Alexis Toledo | Chino, Calif. | Ontario Christian HS | 5-6 | IF | R-R
A first team All-Ambassador League selection as a junior, after earning second team honors her first two seasons at Ontario Christian HS… Team won Ambassador League championship last season and an OCHS All-Tournament player as a sophomore… plays summer ball for the California Cruisers.
Kortmann on Toledo: "Alexis is a welcome addition to our program. A strong competitor, Alexis will strengthen our infield depth and continue to improve our team defense to a top tier college level. We can't wait for her to arrive here next fall."
The Blackbirds are less than 10 days away from starting the 2019 season in Fort Meyers, Florida at the FGCU Kickoff Classic on Friday, February 8.
