SINKING SPRING, PA -- The LIU Brooklyn bowling team went 2-2 on Sunday, the final day of Northeast Conference regular season play at Berks Lanes, including scoring 1000 pins in three of the team's four total pinfall baker matches. Still, the Blackbirds (6-12 NEC) were eliminated from next month's five-team field for the 2019 NEC Championships.

In the first match of the morning, No. 17 LIU fell to No. 19 Mount St. Mary's, by one single pin, 1028-1029, even with a stellar 244 in the middle game of the match. Game scores were 203-205, 234-190, 244-193, 168-222 and 179-219.

The Blackbirds then topped inter-borough rival St. Francis Brooklyn 913-875 (191-169, 225-151, 134-179, 171-218, 192-158), to get back into the win column. Next up was another squeaker, as LIU snuck past No. 23 Duquesne, 1020-1015 (188-180, 187-171, 203-247, 217-205, 224-212), throwing three 200+ games in the match.

Last up for LIU on Sunday was a 1011-1036 loss to No. 20 Sacred Heart (204-176, 215-213, 184-225, 179-236, 229-186), that slotted LIU in the sixth position in the final standings, going 2-4 during each of the three cycles of round robin play this weekend.  The final NEC standings are 1. SFU (14-4), 2. Mount (12-6), 3. SHU (9-9), 4. DUQ (9-9), 5. FDU (8-10), 6. LIU (6-12), 7. SFBK (5-13); as the top five teams make the NEC Tournament next month.

LIU (43-40) will get right back into action next weekend on the Jersey shore at the Monmouth Hawk Invite at King Pin Lanes in Egg Harbor Township, N.J.
