SMITHFIELD, R.I. – The LIU Brooklyn women's tennis bounced back from a loss Friday afternoon to beat Bryant on the road Saturday, 5-2. With the win, the Blackbirds remain undefeated in Northeast Conference dual matches.
LIU clinched the doubles point by winning in the Nos. 1 and 3 doubles spots. Senior
Anna Grigoryan and junior
Ana Leonte had a quick win in the No. 1 spot, beating Ada Boru and Sarah Hickey, 6-2. Bryant would take a win in the No.2 spot, 6-3, but
Malin Leysen and
Sasha Bollweg would beat their opponents in the No. 3 spot, 7-5, to give the Blackbirds a 1-0 advantage early in the match.
Junior
Jessica Brzozowska quickly added to that total with her straight set in in the No. 2 spot. She beat Sarah Hickey with ease, 6-3, 6-1, to give LIU a 2-0 lead. Grigoryan added to it shortly after, as she beat Boru in the No. 1 spot, 7-6(2), 6-2.
LIU would clinch the match with Leonte's win in the No. 6 singles spot, where she beat Leanne Kendall, 5-7, 6-2, 6-2. Leysen would make it 5-0 for the Blackbirds next, when she beat Megan Tan in the No.4 singles spot, 7-5, 7-6(5). Bryant's two points would come in the Nos. 3 and 5 singles spots, where
Jennifer Gogova and
Clemence Krug battled to third sets, before falling to their Bulldog opponents.
