DAYTONA BEACH, FLA-- The LIU Brooklyn Women's golf team finished the first round of the Northeast Conference Championship, at LPGA International in fourth place at 36-over 324. The Blackbirds sit three strokes behind third place Sacred Heart.
Freshman Ashlee Garrett led the way for the Blackbirds in the opening round, finishing at 6-over 78 to tie for eighth on the leaderboard. Juniors Aida Gonzalez (8-over 80) and Rebeca Pardos (9-over 81) also finished in the top-20 . Rounding out the scoring group for LIU is seniors Emma Paschal (13-over 85) and Sara Ciliberto (14-over 86).
Pardos, Gonzalez and Garrett all earned 10 pars on the first day of play, while Ciliberto added 9 of her own.
Fairleigh Dickinson at 18-over leads second place St.Francis-PA by seven strokes after day one. Nicola Smith of the Knights is in the lead for FDU at 2-over, while Allison Appleton of St.Francis-PA and Tomita Arejola of FDU are one stroke behind Smith.
