ANNAPOLIS, M.D.-- The LIU Brooklyn men's golf team completed its final tournament before the Northeast Conference Championship Saturday afternoon with a ninth place performance at the Navy Spring Invitational. The Blackbirds went one stroke under their first round score finishing 47-over 615 (308,307), this marks LIU Brooklyn's fourth top-10 finish in a row.
Freshman Kyle Underwood jumped up the leaderboard four spots to lead the Blackbirds scoring for the eighth time this season. Underwood finished in a tie for second place at 3-over 145 (73,72). The freshman's second round score (72) tied his season's best in which he last shot at the Towson Invitational. Senior George Helsby also made great strides on the day, moving eleven spots up to finish tied for 33rd at 12-over 154 (78,76). Fellow senior Daniel Reale was next for the Blackbirds, carding 17-over 159 (76,83).
Sophomores Manuel Sosa and Jayden Brown concluded the Blackbird scoring group, shooting 18-over 160 (81,79) and 20-over 162 (82,80) respectively.
Freshman Abelardo Yepez competed as an individual and ended the two-day event 21-over 163 (84,79).
NEXT UP
LIU will travel to Daytona Beach, Florida Wednesday, April 24 for the Northeast Conference Championship. The three-round competition will take place at the LPGA International's Hills golf course.
