RESULTS
DAYTONA BEACH, Fla.-- The LIU Brooklyn men's golf team completed the first round in the Northeast Conference Championship on Friday afternoon, shooting 29-over 317 on the Hills Course at the LPGA International to sit in eighth place. The nine-team field in Daytona Beach, Florida will play a second round on Saturday beginning at 8 a.m., before wrapping up the third round on Sunday morning.
Sophomore Manuel Sosa led the Blackbirds on day one, shooting 4-over 76 to stand tied for 11th place. Sosa recorded six pars on the day, while also racking up a tournament-high four birdies.
Freshman Kyle Underwood finished one stroke behind his teammate Sosa at 5-over 77 to land in a tie for 16th place. Underwood converted nine pars and two birdies on the first round of competition. Senior Daniel Reale was third for LIU, carding 9-over 91 to finish in a tie for 27th. Sophomore Jayden Brown and Senior George Helsby concluded the Blackbirds, scoring 11-over 83 (T34) and 12-over 84 (T37) respectively.
Robert Morris leads the championship at 12-over 300, followed (in order) by Sacred Heart, Bryant, St.Francis U., Wagner, Mount St. Mary's, Fairleigh Dickinson, LIU Brooklyn and St. Francis Brooklyn. Individually, Saptak Talwar of Sacred Heart currently leads at 1-under 71, followed by A.J. Skinner of Wager and Ignacio Gomez of Mount St. Mary's in a tie for second at 72 even.
