RESULTS
DAYTONA BEACH, Fla.-- The LIU Brooklyn men's golf team showed a four-stroke improvement on the second round of play Saturday afternoon, shooting 25-over 313. Though still in seventh place overall with a 54-over, 630 on the Hills Course at the LPGA International, the Blackbirds only eight strokes behind sixth place Mount St. Mary's and nine strokes behind the fifth place Fairleigh Dickinson. The third and final round of the league event will begin at 8 a.m. Sunday morning.
Freshman Kyle Underwood played one-stroke better than his first round score, soaring up the leaderboard six spots to sit in a tie for 10th place at 9-over 153 overall. Underwood collected nine pars and added two more birdies during the second round of play, as he is only nine paces outside of the current leader.
Senior George Helsby saw the greatest improvement for the Blackbirds firing 1-over 73 Saturday afternoon. After shooting 84 on Friday, Helsby climbed the charts 16 spots to stand in a tie for 21st place at 13-over 157 overall. Helsby recorded a team high 21 pars through two days of the tournament.
Sophomore Manuel Sosa, who led the LIU scoring through the first round carded 11-over 83, adding seven pars and one birdie to the stat sheet. Sosa currently holds 28th place at 15-over 159 overall.
Senior Daniel Reale shot his second straight round of 9-over 81, to place in a tie for 33rd at 18-over 162 overall. While sophomore Jayden Brown posted another round of 11-over 83 to finish tied for 37th and 22-over 166 after round two.
Robert Morris and Sacred Heart are currently tied for first place at 25-over 601. Individually, reigning champion Saptak Talwar holds the lead at an even 144, with Max Palmer of Robert Morris and Florian Schroedl of Fairleigh Dickinson are three strokes back and tied for second place.
