DAYTONA BEACH, Fla.-- The LIU Brooklyn men's golf team concluded the 2019 Northeast Conference Championships Sunday afternoon in fifth place, scoring 57-over 921 (317,313,291) throughout the three-day event. The squads third-round score of 3-over 291 was the low of the day of the nine-team tournament, also marking the Blackbirds best one-round score of the season.
LIU Brooklyn had four of their five players land in the top-20 overall, three of which earned a top-15 finish to help the Blackbirds slide up two spots on the leaderboard from day-two. For the seventh time this season freshman Kyle Underwood led the Blackbirds scoring, firing 4-over 76 on the day and 13-over 229 (77,76,76) overall. Underwood collected 29 pars and 7 birdies to finished in a tie for 11th place overall.
Seniors and teammates George Helsby and Daniel Reale had the best performances for LIU at the finishing round Sunday afternoon. George Helsby posted a 1-over 73 to conclude the event in 14th place, 14-over 230 (84,73,73) overall. Helsby recorded a Blackbird high of 34 pars in total. Daniel Reale carded the best round on the day for the Blackbrids at 2-under 70, finishing 16-over 232 (81,81,70) overall. Reale jumped up the leaderboard 18 spots to finish tied for 15th, compiling a team high and tournament second-best nine birdies in total.
Sophomore Manuel Sosa earned his second best finish of the season, posting a 17-over 233 (76,83,74) to conclude the tournament in a tie for 18th place. Fellow sophomore Jayden Brown rounded out the Blackbird scoring with a 2-over 74 on the day, his best score of the event. Brown would close-out play at 24-over 240 (83,83,74) to finish tied for 30th.
Reigning champions Fairleigh Dickinson won the team title at 34-over 898, while Florian Schroedl of the Fairleigh Dickinson Knights claimed the individual title at 1-under 215.
