GRASONVILLE, Md.-- After Day 2 of play at the Towson Spring Invitational, the LIU Brooklyn men's golf team ended in a tie for fourth place.The Blackbirds carded 15-over 303 (597 overall) to earn their best finish of the fall and spring season. LIU Brooklyn surpassed their lowest overall team performance by seven strokes, which was previously recorded at the Matthews Auto Collegiate in late September of the fall season.
Freshman Kyle Underwood continued to climb the charts two spots to land in an impressive tie for fourth place, his best finish of his young collegiate career. Underwood fired 2-over 74 to finish with an overall score of 146, just two-over his first day performance. Senior George Helsby shot 4-over 76 (149) on the second day of play to finish in a seven-way tie for 15th. Sophomore Jayden Brown concluded the tournament 6-over 76 (150) to place in a tie for 22nd , while Senior Daniel Reale was two strokes behind Brown at 8-over 77 (152) to finish tied for 32nd. Sophomore Manuel Sosa rounded out the Blackbird scoring group by carding 6-over 78 (153).
Freshman Abelardo Yepez shot 14-over 158 individually to finish tied for 70th place.
Saptak Talwar of SHU claimed the individual title. Youngstown State was the winner of the three-way tie, Sacred Heart second and Towson third.
In his 15th season, head coach Michael Michaelides was pleased on how his guys played this weekend, "Overall we're in a good place, heading into the final three weeks of the season. This is the time to be playing our best golf."
