BROOKLYN, N.Y.-- LIU Brooklyn men's golf senior George Helsby capped his career with a All-NEC second team, announced by the league Friday afternoon. It is the first time in Helsby's career that he has earned all-conference accolades.
This is the first time the Blackbirds received an All-NEC nod since fellow teammate Jake Spearpoint during the 2016-2017 season. Helsby earned LIU's lowest scoring average per round (76.2) through an eleven tournament season. The Auckland, New Zealand native led the Blackbirds team-scoring three times this season, including four top-15 finishes.
The senior's season was highlighted by a career-best second place finish at the Sacred Heart Spring Invitational, helping the Blackbirds surge to a season-high team finish of second place overall. Helsby continued to impress all season long with his steady and impressive play. He notched nine rounds of 75 or lower and played under 80 in 22 of his 25 competitive rounds this season.
With a 14th place finish at the Northeast Conference tournament, Helsby ended his Blackbird career firing 14-over 230 (84,73,73) over the three-day event in Daytona Beach, Florida at the LPGA International.
