Women’s Tennis Wraps Up Day Two at USTA Invitational

Flushing, N.Y. - The Long Island University tennis team took part in the USTA Invitational, held at the USTA Tennis Center, with junior Dara Lahens advancing to the quarterfinals in the H Flight. Lahens fell to Michelle Green of Rutgers in the quarters, 6-3; 7-5.
 
Lahens opened play with a 6-3; 6-2 win over Columbia's Lucy Leopold in the round of 16 to move to the quarterfinal round.
 
In the B Flight, freshman Aleksandra Pavlovic lost in the round of 16 to Penn's Mollie Anderson, 6-0; 4-6; 1-0 (9). Pavlovic went on to lose in the first round of consolation play, dropping a 3-6; 6-2; 1-0 (5) decision to Jennifer Holzberg of Rutgers. In the second consolation round, Pavlovic scored a 7-5; 7-6 (6) semifinal win over Ira Aleksova of St. John's.
 
Freshman Linn Sjogren played in the D Flight, dropping a round of 16 match to Dartmouth's Jesse Adler, 6-1; 6-1. In the consolation bracket, Sjogren scored a first-round win over Tugan Belfin Sunbul of Seton Hall, 6-0; 6-0 before falling to Binghamton's Marina Bykowkaya, 6-3; 6-3.
 
In the F Flight, freshman Taysha Blessington suffered a round of 16 loss to Sarah Lederhandler of Yale, 6-2; 6-2. Blessington then fell to Cornell's Geraldine Leong, 2-6; 6-2; 1-0 (9) in the first consolation round. In the second consolation. Blessington scored a 6-2; 6-1 semifinal win over Fairleigh Dickinson's Egzona Morina.
 
Senior Stephanie Elie also fell in the round of 16, dropping a G Flight match to Dartmouth's Julia Zak, 7-5, 3-6, 1-0 (2). Elie was also unsuccessful in the first consolation round, falling 6-0; 6-1 to Silia DeFilippis of Yale. In the second consolation, Elie earned a win in the semifinal round when Caitlin Bolnick of Penn withdrew due to injury.
