Patton Leads Track and Field at Penn Relays

- Senior Heather Patton of the Long Island University women's track and field team took first place in the Triple Jump Eastern event at the Penn Relays in Philadelphia, Pa. Patton's leap of 12.15 meters highlighted three top-five finishes for Long Island at the events.
 
In the men's 4x400-meter relay IC4A event, the Blackbirds posted their best time of the season in 3:12.20. The team of senior Jeremy Alvarez, junior Julius Mutekanga, sophomore Samuel Egadu and junior Eric Tyler blazed to a fourth-place finish in the event. In the 4x100-meter race, the quartet of seniors Shavar Clarke, Andre Marcano, freshman Nickolei Mahlung and Egadu turned in a time of 41.52.
 
Sophomore Danay Spencer followed Patton in the women's triple jump with a fifth place showing following her leap of 11.73 meters. Freshman Jessie Gaines posted a mark of 5.33 meters in the long jump eastern event to take 25th overall.
 
The relays were Long Island's last tune up before the Northeast Conference Outdoor Championships on May 2-3 in West Long Branch, N.J.
