Brooklyn, N.Y. –Long Island junior
Jazmin Waller has been named Northeast Conference Track Athlete of the Week, as announced by the league office Tuesday. This is the first award of the 2010-11 season for the Blackbirds track and field squad.
Waller took first place in the 200-meter dash out of 34 entrants at the Fordham Christmas Classic on Dec. 10, clocking in at 24.9, and leading Long Island's domination in the event. Defending NEC 200-meter champion junior
Jessie Gaines took second place while sophomore
Amber Mitchell took fourth.
The Atco, N.J. native also led off the first place 4x400-meter relay team featuring Gaines, Mitchell and junior
Torrie Saunders.
The Blackbirds are off until 2011, and will be back in action at the Metropolitan Coaches Invitational on Jan. 7 at the Armory in Manhattan.
