Selma Babic took home her fifth straight Northeast Conference Women's Tennis Player of the Week award after going 2-0 at the No. 1 singles spot in a pair of Blackbirds wins. The honor was the sixth of the season for Babic.
Babic extended her singles winning streak to 10 matches with top flight victories in Long Island's 4-3 wins over Rhode Island and Army. Against Rhode Island on April 9, she defeated Kirsten Leikem, 6-1; 6-1, and added a doubles win with freshman Aleksandra Pavolvic, downing Pam Emery and Amanda Barletta, 8-1. In the Blackbirds win at Army, Babic make easy work of Patricia Vollmer, dispatching her 6-0; 6-1.
Babic is now 11-1 in dual matches and 16-1 overall for the season. She also earned NEC Player of the Week honors on Sept. 29, March 16, March 23, March 30 and April 6.
The second-seeded Blackbirds will take on the winner of the match between No. 7 Monmouth and No. 10 St. Francis (N.Y.) in the NEC Tournament on Friday, April 16. First serve is set for 4:30 p.m.
