Selma Babic was named the women's tennis Scholar-Athlete to lead a group of 41 Long Island University student-athletes representing eight sports on the Northeast Conference Spring Academic Honor Roll. A total of 921 student-athletes were honored by the NEC, which also named a Scholar-Athlete award winner in each of the 10 spring sports. The league also announced the 207-member Commissioner's Honor Roll, which is comprised of student-athletes who attained at least a 3.75 grade-point-average.
The total number of Academic Honor Roll honorees represented a 22.4 percent increase from the last year. In order to receive consideration for the list, student-athletes must maintain a 3.20 or better GPA and complete at least one year in residence at an NEC institution. During the 2009-10 academic year a record 2,257 student-athletes earned their way onto the Academic Honor Roll. The figure represents more than half of the league's competitors and stands as a 12.5 percent increase from last year.
All scholar-athlete award winners must have earned a minimum of 60 semester hours, maintained a minimum cumulative grade-point-average of 3.20 and participated with distinction as a member of a varsity team.

Babic shared the Scholar-Athlete award with Bryant's Chelsea Downing after winning the NEC Player of the Year award and leading LIU to its second straight league crown. Babic posted a 19-2 singles mark, 6-0 against league foes, and became the first woman in NEC history to earn a berth into the NCAA Singles Championship after attaining a No. 121 ranking by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association.
