New York, N.Y. – The Long Island University men's and women's track and field teams headed back to the Armory on Friday for the Armory Collegiate Classic. Both squads saw a number of strong performances, particularly in the 4x400-meter relay, long jump, and 60-meter hurdles.
For the men, senior Corryl Boyd, junior Robert Barnes, and seniors Julius Mutekanga and Sam Egadu took first place in the 4x400-meter relay, clocking in at 3:14.16. Sophomore Brian Richards took first in the long jump, leaping to a mark of 7.31 meters.
In the distance events, sophomore Kenneth Wallace Whitfield took seventh in the 500-meter dash, racing to a time of 1:05.03. Classmate Rogers Kipruto was fourth in the 3000-meter run, earning a time of 8:40.41.
Junior
Jessie Gaines leapt to third in the triple jump, earning a mark of 12.0 meters.
Both squads are back in action on March 5-6, when they head to the ECAC/IC4A meet at the Reggie Lewis Track and Athletic Center in Boston, Mass.
