4x400-Meter Relays Pace Track at Armory Collegiate Classic

The Long Island University men's and women's track and field teams headed back to the Armory on Friday for the Armory Collegiate Classic. Both squads saw a number of strong performances, particularly in the 4x400-meter relay, long jump, and 60-meter hurdles.
 
For the men, senior Corryl Boyd, junior Robert Barnes, and seniors Julius Mutekanga and Sam Egadu took first place in the 4x400-meter relay, clocking in at 3:14.16. Sophomore Brian Richards took first in the long jump, leaping to a mark of 7.31 meters.
 
In the distance events, sophomore Kenneth Wallace Whitfield took seventh in the 500-meter dash, racing to a time of 1:05.03. Classmate Rogers Kipruto was fourth in the 3000-meter run, earning a time of 8:40.41.
 
On the women's side, sophomore Amber Mitchell ran to third place in the 60-meter dash, recording a 7.74. Juniors Jazmin Waller and Torrie Saunders went 1-2 in the 60-meter hurdles, each earning a time of 8.67. Waller and Saunders joined senior Ashley Veney and junior Kadisha Wickham in the 4x400-meter relay, where they took second place.
 
Junior Jessie Gaines leapt to third in the triple jump, earning a mark of 12.0 meters.
 
Both squads are back in action on March 5-6, when they head to the ECAC/IC4A meet at the Reggie Lewis Track and Athletic Center in Boston, Mass.
