NEC Announces 2011 All-NEC Indoor Track and Field Lineup

SOMERSET, N.J. – The Northeast Conference released its lineup of All-NEC honorees on Thursday, including the all conference first team, second team, and rookie nods. First team honors went to gold medalists from the NEC Championships, and second team honors went to silver medalists. The conference-winning women's team picked up seven awards, while the men picked up ten.
 
Junior Jessie Gaines was the sole receiver of first team honors for the 60-meter dash, 60-meter hurdles and long jump. Second team honors went to senior Danay Spencer in the triple jump, Gaines in the 200-meter dash, junior Torrie Saunders in the 60-meter hurdles, and junior Jazmin Waller in the high jump.
 
On the men's side, seniors Julius Mutekanga and Sam Egadu earned first team honors in the 400-meter dash and 500-meter dash, respectively. In the jumps, senior Corryl Boyd and junior Wilmot Stubblefield grabbed honors in the long and triple jumps. Boyd, junior Robert Barnes, senior Elmo Neckles and Egadu were named All-NEC First Team in the 4x400-meter relay.
 
Barnes earned second team honors in the 500-meter dash, while Mutekanga was named All-NEC Second Team in the 800-meter run. Sophomore Brian Richards was named to the second team in the long jump, while senior Amire Solomon earned second team in the triple jump.
 
Sophomore Kenneth Wallace Whitfield was named to the first-ever NEC All-Rookie team in the 500-meter run.
 
The Blackbirds are competing at the Fast track Invitational Friday at the Armory in New York, N.Y.
