Jersey City, N.J. - The Long Island University women's tennis team earned its first win of the spring season with a 5-2 victory at Saint Peter's. The Blackbirds captured the doubles point with a pair of wins and were able to win the match despite not fielding a full lineup.
At the No. 2 singles spot, sophomore
Taysha Blessington defeated Krysten Chen, 6-4; 7-5. Classmate
Linn Sjogren scored a 6-4; 6-2 victory over Joniesa Williams by a 6-4; 6-2 at the third spot and senior
Dara Lahens earned a 6-4; 7-6 win at No. 4 over Ivana Grbelja. Freshman
Fatima Ouattara handed Vanessa Vogel a 6-4; 6-2 defeat at No. 5.
In doubles play, Blessington and sophomore
Aleksandra Pavlovic scored an 8-2 win over Chen and Alexandria Livingston at the top spot. At No. 2, Lahens and Ouattara ousted Williams and Jessica Nowogrodzki by the same margin.
Long Island will return to action on March 14 when the Blackbirds take on Navy in Orlando, Fla.
