Williamsburg, Va. – The Long Island University men's and women's track and field teams were at the College of William and Mary over the weekend for the Colonial Relays at Zable Stadium. The Blackbirds were led by strong performances on both sides in the relays and the jumps.
The women's 4x200-meter relay of junior Torrie Saunders, junior Jazmin Waller, sophomore Amber Mitchell, and junior Kadisha Wickham took first place with a time of 1:39.44.
The quartet of senior Samuel Egadu, sophomore Brian Richards, senior Corryl Boyd, and junior Robert Barnes proved effective in both the 4x200 and 4x400-meter relays. The group clocked in at 1:27.43 for a second place finish in the 4x200, and took third with a time of 3:15.25 in the 4x400.
Junior Amire Solomon won the long jump with a leap of 7.00 meters, while Richards was third with a leap of 6.87 meters. Senior Danay Spencer was second in the women's triple jump, recording a mark of 11.79 meters. On the men's side, sophomore Wilmot Stubblefield was tenth with a jump of 13.73 meters. Waller finished in a tie for sixth in the high jump, clearing a bar of 1.65 meters.
Mitchell was fourth in the 100-meter dash with a time of 12.72. In the 100-meter hurdles, junior Jessie Gaines was second with a time of 13.64, while Waller was third, clocking in at 14.08.
In the team standings, the women were eighth out of 40 teams, while the men were 13th out of 35 teams.
The Blackbirds are back on the track April 6-9 at the Texas Relays at Mike A. Myers Stadium in Austin, Texas. They also head to Robert Morris for the Bennie Benson Invitational on April 10.
