Brooklyn, N.Y. – Long Island University junior
Jessie Gaines is the Northeast Conference Track Athlete of the Week for the week of April 5. Gaines impressed with a fast 100-meter hurdle time at the College of William and Mary's Colonial Relays over the weekend.
Gaines' time of 13.64 is not only the fastest time so far this season in the NEC, but it puts her 35th on the NCAA Division I leader board through April 4. The time was good enough for a second place finish in a stacked field of 53 at the Relays, putting Gaines second only to Villanova's Shericka Ward.
The reigning NEC Outdoor MVP, Gaines has easily met the qualifying standard for the ECAC Championships. The Chesapeake, Va. native has also lowered her personal best from last season in the event, which was a 13.83.
The Blackbirds are back on the track this week at the Texas Relays starting Wednesday, and will also be competing at the Bennie Benson Invitational in Moon Township, Pa. on April 10.
