Fairfield, Conn. - It took three tries but the Long Island University women's tennis team finally made it to Sacred Heart for a Northeast Conference match. After being rained out on two occasions, the Blackbirds traveled to Fairfield, Conn., and came away with a 5-2 win, improving to 2-8 with a 2-1 mark in NEC play.
After dropping the doubles point, Long Island secured the victory with five singles wins. At the top spot sophomore
Taysha Blessington handed Kate Donnelly a 6-1; 6-4 defeat. Classmate
Aleksandra Pavlovic scored a win at No. 2 with a 6-2; 6-1 victory over Elizabeth Harrington. Freshman
Fatima Ouattara earned a 6-4; 2-6; 10-4 win at the third position, downing Gabi Kaldan. At No. 5, junior
Zelie Pfeiffer defeated Kristina Chao by a6-4; 6-1 margin. Senior
Dara Lahens wrapped up a win at the sixth spot, handing Delaney Downing a 6-3; 6-3 loss.
Long Island will return to action on Thursday, April 7, hosting Fairleigh Dickinson at the USTA Tennis Center at 3:30 p.m.
