Women’s 4x100-Meter Relay Takes Gold at ECAC/IC4A Meet

The Long Island University men's and women's track and field teams capped a successful season over the weekend at the ECAC/IC4A Championships in Princeton, N.J. The postseason competition featured a number of the area's best track athletes, and saw the Blackbirds earn the top spot in the women's 4x100-meter relay.
 
The quartet of sophomore Amber Mitchell and juniors Torrie Saunders, Jazmin Waller and Jessie Gaines clocked in at 45.52 to earn the number one spot. In the preliminary heat, the team ran even faster, clocking in at 45.38.
 
Gaines saw her share of success in the individual events as well, taking second in the 100-meter hurdles with a 13.5. She went on to take fifth in the triple jump, leaping to a mark of 12.5 meters.
 
Waller took seventh in the 100-meter hurdles, recording a 14.21. Waller partnered with junior Kadisha Wickham, Saunders and Mitchell for a 16th place finish in the 4x400-meter relay, finishing with a time of 3:48.6. Senior Danay Spencer leapt to a mark of 12.25 meters in the triple jump, good enough for ninth place.
 
On the men's side, senior Corryl Boyd raced to a 47.60 in the 400-meter dash, good enough for 9th place. Boyd also leapt to a mark of 7.20 meters in the long jump, putting him in fourth. Sophomore Brian Richards clocked in with a 22.67 in the 200-meter dash, while recording a mark of 6.9 meters in the long jump to take 16th.
 
Junior Robert Barnes was 20th in the 400-meter dash, clocking in at 48.71. Barnes joined senior Elmo Neckles and sophomores Chris Welch and Kenneth Wallace-Whitfield for the 4x400-meter relay, where the crew clocked in at 3:16.18 with a 17th place finish.
 
In the triple jump, sophomore Wilmot Stubblefield and junior Amire Solomon took 23rd and 25th, respectively. Stubblefield leapt to a mark of 13.58 meters while Solomon recorded a 13.44m.
 
The women were 12th in a field of 53 teams, while the men were 37th out of 51. Duke took the top spot on both the men's and women's sides.
