Newark, N.J. - The Long Island University men's and women's cross country teams saw four runners pick up top ten finishes at the NJIT Classic on Sunday afternoon. Senior Emily Rosario led the charge for the women, while junior Rogers Kipruto was the first male across the line for the Blackbirds.
Kipruto took second place at the event, covering the 8K course in 26:12. Freshmen Jonathan Piniero (27:44) and Elijah Taylor (28:27) both had top ten finishes, coming in 8th and 10th respectively. Senior Elmo Neckles and junior Chris Welch rounded out the squad for the Blackbirds, who took down Saint Peter's in the dual meet-style scoring.
For the women, Rosario took 10th with a time of 20:48. Freshman Jalisa Sanchez was 20th, clocking in at 23:01, while classmate Tyler Nelson was 21st with a time of 23:16. Junior Tricia Beckles was 27th in the 5K race, while junior Tiffany Parker was 32nd.
The Blackbirds are back in action Oct. 7 at the Metropolitan Cross Country Championships, held at Van Cortlandt Park.
