Staten Island, N.Y. – The LIU Brooklyn men's and women's track and field teams headed to local Northeast Conference rival Wagner on Wednesday for the Wagner quad meet. The Blackbirds posted strong performances in a variety of events.
Senior Jessie Gaines took the top spot in the hurdles with a time of 14.8. The women's 4x100-meter relay team posted a 51.9.
Senior Jazmin Waller took the top spot in the shot put with a mark of 8.85 meters, while classmates Kadisha Wickham and Torrie Saunders were second and third, earning 8.72 meters and 7.77 meters, respectively. In their first outing in the event, freshman Shakia Williams earned a mark of 6.54 meters while senior Charlene Fuller earned a mark of 6.41 meters.
In the women's long jump, freshman Bryanna Williams took first with a leap of 5.11 meters. Junior Jazmine Carter was second, earning a mark of 4.87 meters. Junior Amber Mitchell leapt to a mark of 4.45 meters, while sophomore Camille Thomas earned a mark of 4.43 meters.
On the men's side, the 4x100-meter relay was second with a time of 46.3. Freshman Elijah Taylor was third in the 400-meter dash with a time of 54.2. Senior Amire Solomon took the top spot in the men's long jump with a leap of 6.53 meters. Junior Dwayne Layne was third with a leap of 5.96 meters, while freshman Mikhail Williamson was fourth with a mark of 5.89 meters. Junior Jamal Roberts also competed, earning a mark of 5.41 meters.
In the shot put, senior Jarenn Stewart took third with a mark of 9.86 meters. Classmates Corryl Boyd and Kyle Corbett also competed, earning marks of 8.38 and 8.26, respectively.
The Blackbirds are back in action this weekend at the Morgan State Legacy Meet in Baltimore, Md.
