Baltimore, Md. – The LIU Brooklyn men's and women's track and field teams competed at the Morgan State Legacy Meet over the weekend. The men's team was anchored by a first place finish in the long jump by senior Corryl Boyd, while the women were led by senior Torrie Saunders, who finished third in the 100-meter hurdles.
Boyd leapt to a mark of 7.44 meters to take the top spot. Sophomore Steve Buscema was tenth in the javelin, with a throw of 41.94 meters.
In the men's 400-meter hurdles, junior Chris Welch took sixth with a time of 56.14 while junior Dwayne Layne was seventh with a time of 56.28. Senior Robert Barnes raced to a time of 48.56 in the 400-meter dash, good enough for fifth.
The quartet of junior Nickolei Mahlung, junior Jamal Roberts, freshman Mikhail Williamson and senior Jarenn Stewart took third in the 4x100-meter relay with a time of 41.28. Roberts, Barnes and Boyd partnered with junior Brian Richards for a sixth place finish in the 4x400-meter relay with a time of 3:14.86.
On the women's side, Saunders clocked in at 13.89 for bronze in the 100-meter hurdles. Freshman Brittany McClain led the Blackbirds in the 400-meter hurdles, crossing the line in 1:06.49. Classmate Bryanna Williams led the Blackbirds in the 100-meter dash, clocking in at 12.19.
Junior Amber Mitchell took eighth in the long jump with a leap of 5.46 meters. Freshman Bianca Miller represented LIU in the shot put, earning a mark of 8.56 meters.
