Penn Relays Home
Philadelphia, Pa. – Select members of the LIU Brooklyn men's and women's track and field teams competed at the historic Penn Relays this weekend. The Blackbirds put up some strong performances in preparation for next week's Northeast Conference Championship.
On Thursday, the women's 4x100-meter relay combo of seniors Charlene Fuller, Jazmin Waller, Kadisha Wickham and freshman Bryanna Williams clocked in with a time of 47.46. The mark was just shy of earning them a spot in the ECAC finals, where they ended up an alternate. Later in the day, Wickham combined with classmate Torrie Saunders and freshmen Shakia Williams and Brittany McClain for the 4x400-meter relay, where the squad crossed the line in 33:47.23.
On Friday, the men competed in the 4x100-meter relay, with senior Jarenn Stewart, juniors Nickolei Mahlung and Jamal Roberts and freshman Mikhail Williamson turning in a time of 41.79. The time was just shy of the season best, set at last week's Morgan State Legacy Meet.
In the men's 4x200-meter relay, Stewart, Williamson, Mahlung and senior Robert Barnes earned a time of 1:26.11, landing in 11th place. The finish is good enough for a spot in the IC4A final on Saturday. The women's 4x200-meter combination of Fuller, Saunders, Waller and Shakia Williams clocked in at 1:39.01, good enough to qualify for the ECAC final.
The men's team competed in two more relays on Friday and saw success in both. The 4x400-meter relay team of Richard, Barnes, Boyd and Roberts qualified for the IC4A final on Saturday night with a time of 3:15.72. In the sprint medley relay, Richards, Barnes, freshman Andi Augustin and junior Chris Welch clocked in at 3:31.79.
On Saturday, the men's 4x200-meter relay team took first in the IC4A finals, bettering their time to a 1:26.16. In the ECAC 4x200-meter relay final, the women also bettered their time, running a 1:37.5. The men's 4x400-meter relay team closed the event in the IC4A final, clocking in at 3:17.2.
The entire LIU squad is back in action May 5-6 at the NEC Championship in Emmitsburg, Md.
