BROOKLYN, N.Y. - The LIU Brooklyn men's soccer team begins a three-game homestand this Friday, Oct. 18 as the Blackbirds host Robert Morris at 6:00 p.m., before taking on Saint Francis U. at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday.
ABOUT THE BLACKBIRDS:
LIU Brooklyn started off the conference season at Central Connecticut last Friday, Oct. 12. The Blackbirds were able to keep the Blue Devils scoreless throughout most of the first half, but ultimately fell 2-0 to the current first place team in the NEC.
The Blackbirds lead the league in saves with 55, while sophomore midfielder Tanner Sica is tied for fifth with 28 shots and is seventh in shots per game with 2.55. David Nuernberg is right behind Sica in eighth with 2.17 shots per game.
SCOUTING ROBERT MORRIS:
The Colonials were picked to finish last in the conference preseason poll, but are currently 6-4-2 on the season, and defeated reigning NEC Champion Fairleigh Dickinson 2-1 last Sunday. Robert Morris had won four straight games before falling to Bryant 0-1 a week ago. The Colonials boast NEC-leading scorer Neco Brett, who has scored 10 goals on the season. Brett also leads the conference in shots, shots per game, points and game-winning goals.
ALL-TIME SERIES:
The Blackbirds lead the all-time series, 17-14-1 but fell 2-0 to the Colonials last season. LIU Brooklyn last defeated Robert Morris two years ago in 2011.
SCOUTING SAINT FRANCIS U.:
The Red Flash are (8-2-3) currently in second place in the NEC after going 1-0-1 during the conference-opening weekend. Saint Francis tied with Fairleigh Dickinson 1-1 before defeating Bryant 1-0 on Sunday. The Red Flash are ranked first in the latest NSCAA poll. They have allowed the fewest goals in the conference (7) and hold the most shutouts (6). Nick Kolarac is second in the conference with eight goals and 47 shots.
ALL-TIME SERIES:
Saint Francis U. leads the series, as LIU Brooklyn is 9-14-2, with the two teams first meeting in 1989. The Blackbirds' latest win against the Red Flash was in 2008.
