BROOKLYN, N.Y. - The LIU Brooklyn men's soccer team hosts Bryant this Friday at LIU Field at 4:00 p.m. before traveling to Fairleigh Dickinson Sunday to take on the reigning Northeast Conference champions at 3:00 p.m.
ABOUT THE BLACKBIRDS:
The Blackbirds (5-7-1, 2-1-0 NEC) are coming off of two major conference wins last weekend. LIU Brooklyn took down Robert Morris last Friday, 2-1, as junior forward Brice Merwine added a goal and an assist to lead the squad. Freshman Nathan Stewart also scored a goal and was named the NEC Co-Rookie of the Week for his efforts.
On Sunday, sophomore midfielder Nahuel Medina scored in the 53rd minute of the contest to lead the Blackbirds to a 1-0 win over Saint Francis U., who is currently in the second place in the conference and ranked first in the NSCAA North Atlantic Region poll.
LIU Brooklyn is now tied for third place in the league standings with St. Francis Brooklyn and Bryant. The Blackbirds have already surpassed their conference-win total from last season, and still have four games left to play.
SCOUTING BRYANT:
The Bulldogs sport an almost-nearly identical record to the Blackbirds at 5-7 overall and 2-1 in
conference play. Bryant also defeated Robert Morris, but fell to Saint Francis U. before earning a win over Sacred Heart. The Bulldogs average 1.2 goals per game and 9.4 shots, and are lead by Brett Laroque, who has five goals on the season.
ALL-TIME SERIES:
The Blackbirds lead the Bulldogs 3-2 all time, but fell in last year's contest. LIU Brooklyn last defeated Bryant in 2011.
SCOUTING FAIRLEIGH DICKINSON:
The defending Northeast Conference champions are currently in seventh place in the standings, with an 0-2-1 league record with losses to Central Connecticut and Robert Morris. The Knights are still 7-6-1 overall however, and 11 players have scored goals this season. This includes Nico Wright, who has registered two goals and four assists for a team that averages 14.4 shots per game.
ALL-TIME SERIES:
The Blackbirds have a long history with the Knights, in a series that dates back to 1955. LIU Brooklyn is 26-30-4, and suffered a close 2-1 loss last season. The team last defeated Fairleigh Dickinson in 2010.
UP NEXT:
The Blackbirds travel to Sacred Heart on Sunday, Nov. 3 for a 1:00 p.m. contest before closing out the regular season against crosstown rival St. Francis Brooklyn at home on Nov. 10.
