BROOKLYN, N.Y. - The LIU Brooklyn men's soccer team nears the end of its regular-season schedule with two games left in 2013. The Blackbirds travel to Sacred Heart this Sunday for a 1:00 p.m. match in Fairfield, Conn.
ABOUT THE BLACKBIRDS: The Blackbirds went 0-1-1 last week in conference play and moved to 5-8-2 (2-1-1 NEC) on the season. They first tied Bryant on Friday, 1-1, backed by Kevin Lockhart's second goal of the season, to gain another point. LIU Brooklyn is tied with the Bulldogs for fourth in the conference standings. On Sunday, the team fell 1-0 to defending league champions Fairleigh Dickinson, who picked up its first NEC win of 2013.
Redshirt freshman Logan Keys has made a critical impact in goal, and leads the conference with 7.50 saves per game. He also boats the second-best save percentage at .849
SCOUTING SACRED HEART:
The Pioneers (3-12-0, 0-5-0 NEC) are currently on a seven-game losing streak and looking for their first NEC victory of the season. Their best chance came against Central Connecticut, after the match went into overtime tied at 3-3, but the Blue Devils eventually emerged with the 4-3 victory. Mahmoud Kafel has scored six of 11 of Sacred Heart's total goals this year.
ALL-TIME SERIES:
The Blackbirds are 5-8-2 since the two teams first began the series in 1998. LIU Brooklyn last defeated Sacred Heart in 2003, 4-0, and fell in last year's game, 2-1.
