BROOKLYN, N.Y. - The LIU Brooklyn men's soccer team was recognized as a College Team Academic Award winner by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America, the organization announced on Tuesday. A total of 862 college soccer teams (593 women, 269 men) posted a team grade point average of 3.0 or higher, thereby earning the NSCAA Team Academic Award for the 2012-13 academic year.
This is the fifth consecutive NSCAA Team Academic Award and ninth total under Blackbirds' head coach T.J. Kostecky in his 15-year tenure at LIU. The men's soccer team finished the academic year with a 3.33 cumulative GPA.
LIU tied for fifth place in the Northeast Conference during the regular 2013 season, and finished with a 5-10-2 overall record.
