Northeast Conference Track and Field
LANDOVER, Md. –Receiving the 2013 Northeast Conference Women's Most Outstanding Rookie award, freshman Ja'Mesha Richard pocketed two championship titles to lead LIU Brooklyn women's track & field to a second-place finish at the NEC 2013 Indoor Championships. No stranger to indoor championship royalty, this is the women's sixth top-two finish under head coach Simon Hodnett.
Setting the pace early on in the 60 meter hurdles, Richard took her first NEC championship title with her time of 8.57 seconds. Teammate Shanice Grant came in third with her time of 8.80 seconds. Check out video of the women's 60 meter hurdlers here.
Richard garnered another NEC championship title in the 60 meter dash for her time of 7.66 seconds, squeezing out her second-place teammate, sophomore Bryanna Williams, by a mere .002 seconds. Veteran Amber Mitchell finished fourth, with a time of 7.70 seconds.
Sophomore Katrina Anderson also earned an NEC championship title, as she took the top spot in the women's 500m run, with a time of 1:16.04.
The 200 meter dash saw three Blackbirds score points. First year Josephine Watson came in third in 25.49, while teammates Anise Cuffee and Shakia Williams finished fifth and seventh overall.
Watson added another five points for LIU in the 400 meters dash with her fourth-place finish, crossing the line in 57.66. Williams finished eighth overall, adding another point to the LIU team total. In the field events, senior Jasmine Carter finished fourth overall, jumping 11.12m .
The 4x400 meter relay swuad of Stevens, Williams, Watson and Anderson concluded the day's competition with a second-place finish.
LIU Brooklyn finished the team standings in second place, with 100 points. Defending champions Monmouth took the title for the second straight year, scoring 162.5 team points.
