SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico – The LIU Brooklyn women's tennis team opened its spring break trip in San Juan, Puerto Rico with two wins, as the Blackbirds beat the University of Puerto Rico, 7-0, and Bucknell, 5-2.

Sunday, March 10, LIU opened its trip against Division II opponent, the Universit of Puerto Rico, and won, 7-0. The Blackbirds swept all three doubles matches, and all six singles spots as well.
In the No. 1 doubles spot, sophomore Sanne Louwers and senior Taysha Blessington won, 8-1, while senior Aleksandra Pavlovic and sophomore Katya Yegoreychenko won at No.2, 8-0. And junior Lisa Maas and sophomore Brittany Thompson made it a sweep, winning in the No.3 spot, 8-0.
In singles, the Blackbirds won all six matches without dropping a set. At No.1, Louwers won, 6-0, 6-0, while Blessington had a win in the No.2 spot, 6-0, 6-1. Maas's first set went to a tiebreaker, but managed to come out on top in the No.3 spot, 7-6, 6-0.
Yegoreychenko and Pavlovic both won in straight sets at Nos. 4 and 5, while Thompson rounded out the win with a 6-1, 6-2 win at No.6.

Monday, March 11, the Blackbirds took on the Bucknell Bison, and also won that match, 5-2. LIU swept the doubles point, and survived two Bison wins in singles to take the team win.
In doubles, the Bison put up a good fight, but LIU was able to pull out the win. The Blackbirds won at 2 and 3, 8-3, while Louwers and Blessington had an 8-4 win in the No.1 spot over Elena Vidrascu and Maria Cioffi.
In singles, Bucknell took wins at Nos. 2 and 3, while LIU won at Nos. 1, 4, 5 and 6. Blessington suffered a loss to Cioffi at No.2 singles after winning the first set, 0-6, 7-5, 6-4. And Maas also won the first set, but fell to Lydia Colvin at No.3, 2-6, 6-3, 6-4.
The rest of the Blackbirds had wins, to ensure LIU's victory. At No.1 singles, Louwers beat Vidrascu, 6-4, 7-5, while Yegoreychenko beat Christie Schneider at No.4 in straight sets, 6-0, 6-2. Pavlovic beat Stephanie Pino in the No.5 spot, 6-3, 6-2, while sophomore Brittany Thompson pulled out a tough win in the No.6 spot, rallying back from a first set defeat to beat Ellie Fraser, 2-6, 6-2, 6-0.
