SAN JUAN, PUERTO RICO – The LIU Brooklyn women's tennis team (6-0) completed its spring break trip and remains undefeated, with a 6-1 win over Colgate Friday. The Blackbirds swept doubles to help start the ball rolling against the Red Raiders, and took wins in five of the six singles spots.
Sophomore Sanne Louwers and senior Taysha Blessington remained undefeated in the No.1 doubles spot, as they beat Kelsey Wanhainen and Lexi Lazares, 8-2. Lisa Maas and Brittany Thompson clinched the doubles point in the No.3 spot, with their 8-4 win over Jennifer Ho and Jackie Finn. And Aleksandra Pavlovic and Katya Yegoreychenko made it a sweep, beating Kelsey Shea and Merideth Rock at No.2, 8-6.
In singles, Blessington continued her dominance in the No.2 spot, beating Wanhainen, 6-1. 6-0. And Louwers remains undefeated at No.1 singles, with her 6-1, 6-2 win over Shea. Yegoreychenko took her match overs Lazares at No.4, 6-1, 6-3, while Pavlovic beat Rock, 6-4, 6-2 at No.5 singles. Thompson pulled out a win in the tiebreaker, beating Katie Grant, 6-4, 4-6, 10-4 at No.6, while Maas fell in a tiebreaker to Ho at No.3, 4-6, 6-5, 12-10.
Up next, the Blackbirds return home to take on local rival St. John's in Queens, Friday, March 22 at 11 a.m.
