QUEENS, N.Y. - The LIU Brooklyn women's tennis team improved to 9-2 overall and 3-0 in the Northeast Conference Thursday afternoon, as the Blackbirds beat St. Francis Brooklyn, 4-0. The two teams started with singles, and suspended the match when LIU had clinched the win with its fourth point.
The Blackbirds got started with a win in the No.6 spot, winning by default without a St. Francis Brooklyn opponent. LIU had three straight set wins in the top three singles spots to clinch the victory.
Sophomore Sanne Louwers won at No.1 singles, beating Luda Losvska, 6-0, 6-1, while senior Taysha Blessington beat Natasha Edwards at No.2, 6-0, 6-0. And sophomore Katya Yegoreychenko made it 4-0 with her 6-0, 6-0 win over Akuila Edwards at No.3.
In the No.4 spot, Lisa Maas was up, 3-0 over Jovana Bojinovic when the match was called, while senior Aleksandra Pavlovi was up, 3-0 over Dragana Dzigurski at No.5.
Up next for the Blackbirds is one final match before the NEC tournament. LIU will take on Fordham, Sunday, April 14 in the Bronx, at 1 p.m.
