BROOKLYN, N.Y. – After a strong performance at the Metropolitan Championships over the weekend, freshman Shanice Grant earned Northeast Conference Rookie of the Week, it was announced by the league on Tuesday.
Grant's latest outing resulted in the rookie being crowned a Metropolitan champion. The first-year Blackbird took first place in the 100m hurdles at the Mets, clocking in at 14.06s.
The time, which is well under the qualifying standard for the ECAC Championships, makes Grant the current NEC leader in the event as she sits .03 second ahead of fellow first-year Blackbird Ja' mesha Richard. Grant ranks 75th on the NCAA East Region performance list.
Track & Field returns to action on Wednesday, April 17 at the Wagner Quad Meet, hosted by Wagner College.
