STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. – Led by a sweep in the discus, the LIU Brooklyn women's track and field team also had strong presence in the other events at the Wagner Quad Meet on Wednesday.
Sweeping 1-2-3 in the discus was sophomore Bianca Miller (30.95), sophomore Niteesa Brooks (29.72), and senior Dottie Vea (29.49).
Freshman Shanice Grant led the field in shot put with her mark of 8.70 for first. Third-place finisher, sophomore Marielena Rivera launched a 6.73.
In the 100 meters, LIU claimed the second to sixth spots, with sophomore Brittany McClain leading the unit with her time of 12.60. Teammate Shakia Williams ran a time of 12.7, followed by freshman Kyaira Wright-Harmon's 13.20. Senior Tiffany Parker crossed the finish line in 13.40 and sophomore Simone Epps garnered a time of 13.80, for fifth and sixth, respectively.
The long jump also had a strong Blackbirds' presence. Finishing in the top two spots, senior Jasmine Carter leapt to a mark of 4.85, followed by freshman Ja'Mesha Richard's attempt of 4.79. Junior Camille Thomas finished with her 4.46 (sixth) and senior Amber Mitchell added her mark of 4.20 for eighth.
The Blackbirds compete next at the Morgan State Legacy Invitational in Baltimore, Md. The two-day event gets started on Friday, April 19.
